What it's for
A quick table decoration for Christmas: stand a row along a mantel, use small ones as ornaments or place settings, or make a whole forest from scraps of green and glitter card.
About this template
Two flat tree shapes that slide together into a standing 3D tree, 3.5 in wide and 5 in tall by default. One piece has a slot from the base and the other from the top, and the flat base gives it a wide footprint. Choose crisp Classic tiers or rounded Soft tiers.
Common slot-together 3d tree sizes
| Size | Width × height (in) | Width × height (mm) |
|---|---|---|
| Ornament | 2 × 3 in | 51 × 76 mm |
| Tabletop | 3.5 × 5 in | 89 × 127 mm |
| Large | 5 × 7.5 in | 127 × 191 mm |
The default is 3.5 × 5 in. Every size is adjustable in the editor.
How to assemble
- Cut both pieces. Cut pieces A and B from one sheet of card. Nothing is scored or printed.
- Line up the slots. Hold piece A above piece B, with A's slot facing down and B's slot facing up.
- Slide together. Slide A down until both slots meet at the middle and both bases sit level.
- Stand or hang. Stand it on a table with no glue. To hang the ornament size, add one dot of glue where the pieces cross, because the lower piece could otherwise slide off.
Materials and settings
The default material thickness is 0.018 in (0.46 mm); set your own in the editor to match your paper or board. Blue lines are cuts and red dashed lines are scores: in Silhouette Studio use Cut by Line Color, and in Cricut Design Space set the red fold lines to Score. Cut it from colored or glitter card, because every fin shows both faces and a one-sided print would leave half of them blank. The slot width follows the thickness you enter, but it hasn't been physically cut yet, so cut the ornament size first to check the fit.

Slot-Together 3D Tree FAQ
- Does this slot-together Christmas tree template need glue?
- No, not to stand. The two pieces hold each other up, and they slide apart again to store flat. Add one dot of glue only if you want to hang it.
- Why isn't the 3D tree printed?
- Every fin shows both faces, so a one-sided print would leave half of them blank. Colored or glitter card looks the same from every side. The colors in the preview are only there to help you choose, and they aren't in the files.
- Why is one tree piece shorter at the tip?
- A slot from the top would split the tip into two thin points that flop. Trimming that piece keeps its points wider, and the other piece's tip stands above it.
- Is the slot-together 3d tree template free?
- Yes. It runs free in your browser with no signup and no watermark, and what you make is yours and free to use.
- Which files do I get, and do they work with Cricut and Silhouette?
- You get a 1:1 PDF, SVG and DXF. Use SVG for Cricut Design Space and Silhouette Designer Edition, or DXF for the free Silhouette edition. Blue lines cut and red lines score.
